Citizenship in Science is run by a scientist household. Most of the writing is done by Justin, while Shermi does the artwork and ideas are constantly bounced between them. Our inspiration to help convey science in an honest and friendly way comes from our backgrounds as scientists and with heavy influences by the codes of martial arts and Boy Scouts.

Those of you with a Scouting background may notice the reference in the name of our blog. One of the tenets of Boy Scouts is citizenship; this applies to your community, your nation, and the world. As scientists, we feel a responsibility to maintain strong citizenship in the scientific community as well.

Our topics are derived from what is eating at us, what we’ve learned, and science questions posed by friends and family. Our collective scientific experiences span all aspects of molecular biology with dabbles in cancer, virology, bacteriology, fertility, inflammation. One of the things we have learned is that a deep understanding of basic scientific principles allows for a critical analysis and interpretation of many different fields. If you have a topic you’d like to see addressed, send your idea our way. If we can compile enough information for an honest discussion of it, we’ll write it up.
